J'aurais à dire sur la photo du dessous si nostlagique avec ce visge dans une encoignure de fenêtre, le regard baissé dans une question ou un refus.
Egalement sur celle du dessus avec cette peine qui incline cette vieille personne, peine dûe à l'âge et qui fait tout l'environnement se ficher dans le pavement comme un fagot de flèches dans une cible.
J'aime bien cette petite langue et ce rectangle de lumière. J'aurais bien vu le personnage être là.

Hi Sean - it was a daft comment that doesn't really mean anything now I come to think about it. What was in my mind was just to present a sequence of photos from a particular visit and to see what if any sort of style, mood, narrative emerged. It's impossible to do this without some kind of selection process of course. It's misleading as well to talk about more or less care and attention being taken - I don't spend a lot of time tinkering with photos other than cropping, straightening, and a bit of dodging and burning. And all of these have had the same treatment as any other. All the recent Venice ones are done on B+W film so there is no conversion involved either. (There is one exception)

Richard.... The latest ones of Venice for me have really been fantastic.... something raw about them (but then I imagine film has alot to do with that). It is amazing how different they seem with the textures etc, and so much more honest.

Your comment was not really daft, and my response was tongue in cheek but what I was really more interested in was what photographs you consider succesful. What is your criteria for a succesful photograph?

Thanks for the compliment Sean. I'm not sure about the selection process - there's nothing systematic about it. The ones I like just seem to suggest themselves. Your use of the word "successful" is interesting, though..
