Stüssihof fountain

Zurich has a huge network of public fountains, all with drinking water. Some go back a long way. This is one of the oldest, and best known, original ones, in the Stüssihof. Its quite a complex affair, this is just a detail

I've been playing with idea of a website documenting the range and history of these for a while. They are one of the joys of the city.

Deep sigh over this one...................

I have seen a few of them! This one is really fabulous!

Gives me the opportunity to remind everybody that what you find in the Paris Wallace fountains (you find them all over) is also drinking water!!

Both photos are wonderful, each in its own right.
The top one gives an idea of the complex water games involved and the bottom one is all about the simple joys of water + childhood.
Just fantastic.
I think the next bloggers weekend will have to be in Zurich!

Please do something on the fountains... it frustrates me that in Zurich there is also so much art but without credit to an artist. I have looked everywhere for names of sculptures and dates but cannot seem to find reference. I think that such a rich history should be shared but I have no idea where to look. I concede that this may be my shortcoming rather than that of Stadt Zurich but I would love someone to point this out...

Hi Shaun - I picked up a book in a second-hand bookshop that documents the Zürich water system from it's earliest beginnings up until about 1980. That should be a start, although it doesn't seem to have much on the accompanying sculpture/decoration. That'll be a starting point if I ever get going
