Lunch

All these photos from Venice have been taking with the Canon G11 which has replaced my Leica DLux 3 as an all purpose carry-around digital camera. In fact it's the only digital camera I brought with me. So far I'm very pleased - in operation and usability it suits me very nicely, which for me is the main thing in any camera. No matter how good the picture quality if I can't get along with it I won't get good results

Ah... so that's what's happened. Damn, another one on the wish list. I used to have the problem of choosing between the 650IS and the G9 (or its predecessors) and I always came down on the 6x0 series against the Gx. I wondered why they dropped it, obviously smashed them together into the G11, AND they've reduced the pixel count (hurray!) Ah well, has lost the AA battery (boo) so it'll have to sit behind the EP1 (and various other obscure objects of desire)

(I guess you had just finished your lunch!) :-)

Still have my G7. Hesitating to change for the G11. Obviously you would recommend it. (It seems to zoom less than the G7.)

Hi Peter

Not sure what to advise you about the G11, whether it would be a big improvement or not. The swivel screen is useful. I like the manual knobs for changing ISO and exposure compensation. I think the sensor quality is better, but it depends if you need that or not. The zoom is 28-140 as opposed to 35-210. I think the wider angle is more useful - more often than not you can move closer, but you can't move farther away

Had forgotten to visit you for my Venice-fix as one of the dogs has been sick. Operation over and hopefully OK.

This made me laugh out loud. I immediately thought what I'd do, and I'd have photographed the food before I ate it. I LOVE that you ate the food and then photographed the plate and lemon. So glad you like your new camera. Off to see more photos of my favourite city too...
